P-MAN IV Update Series, #10: The Final Update
24 April 2002

Hello Supporters!

I'm back home in Michigan. It was a great trip. The news on the 23rd was that no new discovery took place. Lazarus, who has been 100% in the past, had an off day. The 24th was scheduled for more interviews and prepping for the next mission to Palau, but Lazarus was going to look one more time. Maybe they found something. I won't know until the rest of the team comes back. They started their trek home at 0145 local Palau time on the 25th. (1245 local on the 24th here in Michigan)

My trip back was uneventful. Left at 0145 the 23rd and got back to DTW at 1445 on the 23rd. Isn't the international dateline great?! I had an eight hour break in GUM and an 80 minute break in order to rush to another terminal in NRT.

My thanks to everyone one of you for your help and support. Without each of your contributions, we would not have had as successful a mission as we did.

The Web site will be updated sometime after all the photos are looked at and uploaded. The web address is http://legacy.bentprop.org.

If there is no news from the last couple of days of the mission, then this is the last update for P-MANIV. So, here are the final lessons learned:

  1. When offering to buy dinner for the group, it looks really bad when they don't take plastic and you don't have enough cash.
  2. Dehydration manifests itself in many forms, from just being thirsty to being really tired.
  3. Having water leftover in your Camelbak is not good for brownie points with the group.
  4. It sucks being in scuba paradise with less than 24 hours until your flight home.
  5. You generally cannot use someone else's uniform if you outweigh them by 80 pounds, and neither can they if you try.
  6. You can be on the furthest island, and the longest distance from anywhere and prices will still be higher in Hawaii.
  7. Cheap internet access in your room, isn't.
  8. "Included in the price" may or may not be related to your final billing.
  9. Palau turf and surf dinner: burger and sashimi, with fries of course.
  10. If it's really rough seas, don't start your dive until the rain squall passes and you can see land again.
  11. 1/2 mile from the dive boat is an ocean away.
  12. It's only an island.
  13. Gear up, flaps up, where's my sake?
  14. And the final lesson learned: "whatever....."

Once again, I hope you enjoyed the updates. More later if there is a future P-MAN.
