P-MAN XIII Update #09 - Lost boy

12 February

I now know that there’s something down there.

There’s something down about 116’ feet below the surface of the blue Philippine Sea, and. west of the capital of Koror.

We had first picked it up three or four days ago, and, it was one of those funny shaped things that slid across the side-scan sonar screen that didn’t quite look like an airplane wing, but, then again, it didn’t quite look like a lump of coral, either.

So, at the end of today’s scanning, and in a blazing tropical sun that was so hot one simply could not go without sandals on the boat deck, we lowered the gear over the side of the boat and ran by to scad her again. And, then we came around and scanned her again for a second time, just to be sure. This last time closer, and in more detail.

And, there she rests on the sea floor.

Our crew is starting to get its hopes up, as we look at one another with giant grins on our faces. For all we know, it might just be a small, old, boat sunk back in the war. Or, it might be a Japanese plane. But, on the other hand, it might also be a clue to our finding another American lost boy.

Tommorow.
